Founded by Head Roaster Ashley during the height of COVID, Four Rivers Coffee Co is on a mission to make ethical, freshly roasted and high-quality speciality coffee accessible to the masses. Based in Hertford at the confluence of the rivers Lee, Rib, Mimran and Beane, Four Rivers Coffee Co go to great lengths to source their beans ethically from farmers around the world, helping to supporting their local communities. Each bean is then roasted to order at their Hertford HQ in their very own micro-roastery.

Four Rivers Coffee is a Hertfordshire-based micro-roastery established by Ashley during the COVID-19 pandemic. The name "Four Rivers" reflects Hertford’s location at the confluence of four rivers: the Lee, Rib, Mimram, and Beane. This small but dedicated operation is committed to sourcing coffee responsibly from farmers worldwide and roasting it to enhance its natural flavours.

The roastery, known as the Roasting Shed, measures just 2.5 by 1.5 metres and houses a 1kg Aillio Bullet roaster. Here, beans are roasted to order, ensuring freshness and quality. The shed was constructed using mostly recycled and locally sourced materials, underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainability. Despite its compact size, the Roasting Shed efficiently handles sourcing, roasting, and packaging of all coffee beans.

Ashley, the Head Roaster, meticulously oversees the entire process, from selecting beans to perfecting the roast profiles. The company’s mission is to make speciality coffee accessible and to highlight the diverse flavours of their carefully selected beans.
