Producer spotlight: Sea Sisters
We’re thrilled to welcome Sea Sisters to the Farmfetch community – a pioneering British cannery that’s redefining tinned seafood with creativity, sustainability, and unmistakable charm. Based in Bridport, West Dorset, Sea Sisters is the brainchild of Charlotte Dawe and chef Angus Cowan, who launched the venture during the 2020 lockdown. What began as a kitchen-table experiment has grown into the UK’s first craft cannery dedicated to preserving British fish in season, inspired by European-style conservas.
A lockdown idea with lasting impact
The idea for Sea Sisters was sparked when Charlotte and Angus, navigating the challenges of early parenthood and pandemic restrictions, noticed a gap in the market: there were no tinned fish products using British seafood. Combining Angus's culinary experience from renowned London restaurants like Trullo and Rochelle Canteen with Charlotte’s vision, they set out to create high-quality, handmade conservas that celebrate British fish and seafood.
Sustainable sourcing and ethical practices
Sea Sisters is committed to ethical sourcing, working with small fisheries that employ low-impact fishing methods and harvest mature fish from abundant stocks. They proudly support women fishermen and UK aquaculture, ensuring that every tin reflects a dedication to sustainability and responsible practices.
Crafted for the 'Golden Hour'
Each conserva is lovingly handmade in small batches at their Dorset cannery, designed to be enjoyed during what Charlotte and Angus call the 'Golden Hour' – those cherished moments of unwinding with a delicious bite and a drink. Among their delightful offerings, here are two of our standout favourites:
Cornish Hake with Rosemary & Capers
This succulent white fish is preserved in extra virgin olive oil infused with rosemary, garlic, and capers, delivering Mediterranean flavours that pair perfectly with crusty bread.
Rainbow Trout Smoked Over Oak
An award-winning conserva featuring gently oak-smoked rainbow trout preserved in extra virgin olive oil. It's versatile and delicious, ideal for breakfast with eggs or as a sophisticated snack with crackers and cream cheese.
Sea Sisters' dedication to quality and innovation has not gone unnoticed; they've been featured in The Guardian's roundup of top indie food producers, praised for their sustainable approach and exceptional flavours – and we're delighted to stock them here at Farmfetch.
