Producer spotlight: Douglas Willis Butchers

The Douglas Willis story began in the late 1930s with young Douglas, who started off delivering meat for a local butcher in Llanyravon. His dedication and passion for quality led him to establish his own butcher shop, where he quickly gained a reputation for offering the best cuts.

Unable to find consistently high-quality meat, Douglas bought his own farm, ensuring control over every aspect of production. Today, the business remains a family affair, with the third(!) generation maintaining the same standards of excellence.

What we really love about Douglas Willis is their 'pasture to plate' farmer-butcher model. They rear cattle on their own Usk Valley farm, adhering to principles of sustainability and ethical treatment of animals. This dual expertise as both farmers and butchers ensures that every piece of meat meets their rigorous quality standards. Their commitment to traditional butchery techniques means customers receive the finest cuts, rich in flavour and texture.

Today, Douglas Willis Butchers have expanded beyond their local roots to supply top restaurants and hotels across the UK, cementing their reputation as provider of choice for many Michelin and award-winning chefs, from James Sommerin to the Celtic Manor and the Angel Hotel Abergavenny.
