Producer spotlight: introducing Isle of Bute Smokehouse

Producer spotlight: introducing Isle of Bute Smokehouse

We’re incredibly excited to announce Isle of Bute Smokehouse as the latest addition to Farmfetch, adding yet another foodie delight from the Scottish Isles to our community of producer partners.

Steeped in heritage and culinary history, the smokehouse has been producing smoked fish for over 135 years - Queen Victoria is said to have been particularly partial to the smoked kippers from this very site! A few owners and revivals later, Isle of Bute Smokehouse is now a modern and proudly female owned and led artisan producer, creating delicious smoked salmon, trout and cheddar to order.

We can’t wait for you to try it!

Why we love Isle of Bute Smokehouse

  • Tradition - The Bute Smokehouse team stick religiously to traditional production methods; before smoking, each piece of fish is dry cured for 48 hours using a salt & sugar mix with a surprising secret ingredient, before being dry hung and cold smoked in a purpose built kiln.
  • Smoked to order - this truly unique product is cured, smoked & slided to order by head smoker Alister for every single customer, ensuring the freshest possible produce with the absolute minimum amount of waste.
  • Heritage - fish has been smoked in the exact same smokehouse since way back in 1888, making it a real institution on the Isle of Bute. Traditional methods in a historic smokehouse deliver a truly special end product.

A piece of smoked fish from Isle of Bute Smokehouse is a real pleasure to eat, and we can’t wait to bring their full selection of made to order products directly to you!
